it cannot be your parents. My Mum lives eighty miles away, and has arthritis, so the idea that she travels to my house in the middle of the night and climbs up on the roof (ladder locked up) and then drops down the chimney to bring my presents seems much more unlikely than ....

The plan is not always typed in order. I put a few bits in, the definitions, for instance, are vital and fixed. Then I start to put in the other bits. These will not be in order, but I insert them as I see fit, so that they end up in order on the screen, aiming all the time for the whole thing to flow and build up. There is also some moving around goes on, using cut and paste facilities.
You will see from the plan that some ideas are much better developed than others. Also, though there is none here, it is not unusual to have bits in the plan which end up being ditched.
