This person arrives at the party with the sole intention of helping you clear up afterwards. Washups have a pathological need to be helpful, even if that means disrupting your party. To them all the drinking, eating, chatting etc is a necessary chore to be endured until the main event later on. The more eager Washup actually starts while the party is still in full swing, disturbing the Kitcheners, and interrupting intense conversations at the bottom of the stairs with their recognisable call of "Is this glass finished with?" During the party the Washup can be a bit of a pain, but it is always worth inviting one because you realise their worth later in the night. NB Washups are not deterred by you having an automatic dishwasher, indeed many are offended if you do not let them wash up.
